A former fishing village, Pourville-sur-Mer became at the beginning of the 19th century a very popular seaside resort in Upper Normandy.
The village, dependent on Hautot-sur-Mer, not far from Dieppe, has attracted many talented painters in its time, like Claude Monet who painted several landscapes there.
After an important development in the interwar period, the resort was indeed one of the favorite destinations of the Parisian artistic world, in particular thanks to the presence of a casino and other luxury hotels.
